Educated in agricultural economics, H.E. Shettima was elected to the Borno State government in 2011. As Governor, H.E. Shettima faced the task of rebuilding a state that had been devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency. He implemented a number of successful programs to improve security, education, healthcare and infrastructure. He also worked to promote peace and reconciliation among the various ethnic and religious groups.
In 2022 he was elected Vice President of Nigeria. H.E. Shettima has received numerous awards and significant recognition for his leadership and achievements.
He will make his Borlaug Dialogue debut during the World Food Prize Africa Agriculture Dialogue - From Dakar to Des Moines.
